The Reform of Administrative Law in Nigeria

This research project is designed as to assist the reform of administrative law in English speaking West Africa. It uses Nigeria, Ghana and the Gambia as reference countries in advocating reform that seeks to improve administrative decision making and the review of administrative action. Comparative lessons are drawn from similar exercises in other regions such as Southern Africa.

This research project has already commenced with a review of the state of administrative law in the relevant countries. A national conference to chart new directions for each country is envisaged to strengthen the review process. In this regard, the review process for Nigeria is ongoing and will end with a national conference planned for December 2006.

Human Rights in Africa: Strengthening the Rights of the Nigerian Worker

This research project examines a number of mechanisms for strengthening the rights of the Nigerian worker. In this regard, the Centre will commence this research project by examining the scope of the right to fair hearing as it applies to the Nigerian worker. A workshop in this regard is planned for April 2006.
